Announcing the Limited Edition Obi-Wan Kenobi Commander Expansion for Spiel 2019

“Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope.”
—Leia Organa, Star Wars: A New Hope

Jedi Knights do not seek fame or glory, but sometimes these things find them anyway. Such is the case with Obi-Wan Kenobi. Nobly serving the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars, Kenobi would become one of the most renowned Jedi Knights in the galaxy, his legend living on long after the Jedi were thought extinct. Obi-Wan Kenobi stands out from other Jedi, and those who attend Spiel in Essen, Germany, from October 24–27 will have the opportunity to bring a unique version of this famous Jedi to their Star Wars™: Legion armies.

Fantasy Flight Games is happy to announce the Limited Edition Obi-Wan Kenobi Commander Expansion for Star Wars: Legion, available at Essen Spiel 2019!

FFG: Announcing Two Unit Expansions for Star Wars: Legion

The Clone Wars are raging across the Star Wars galaxy and, as more and more planets are drawn into this epic conflict, both sides explore different ways to support their troops on the ground. Soon, both the Galactic Republic and the Separatist Alliance will have the chance to supplement their forces with some of the Clone Wars’ most cutting-edge military technology. Fantasy Flight Games is happy to announce two new Unit Expansions for Star Wars™: Legion:

Representing radically different approaches to vehicular combat, these Unit Expansions can support your troops in every phase of the battle. Whether you’re looking to lay down some heavy fire to protect your troops’ advance or make your army more mobile, these units open new options for your Clone Wars-era armies, letting you diversify your forces and explore new strategies, no matter what enemy you face.

BARC Speeder Unit Expansion

Versatile and swift, BARC speeders are designed to assist clone troopers as they scout the field, protect key targets, and launch rapid surprise attacks. These durable speeder bikes are armed with heavy blasters and fitted with powerful engines, making them useful in nearly any theater of ground war across the galaxy.

Although they may be defined by their great speed, BARC speeders provide the Grand Army of the Republic with much more than a target that’s hard to hit. An optional sidecar leaves room for you to equip your BARC speeder with a range of weaponry, instantly turning it into a heavy weapons platform. When combined with the speeder’s built-in Twin Light Blaster Canons, driver and passenger can unleash an attack powerful enough to damage the heaviest Separatist droids.

Within the BARC Speeder Unit Expansion, you’ll find one unpainted, finely sculpted BARC speeder miniature different than the miniature included in the Star Wars: Legion Clone Wars Core Set—now featuring pilots in BARC Speeder Pilot armor. If you choose, this miniature can include a sidecar featuring a built-in M-45 Ion Blaster or a Mark II Medium Blaster. Similarly, a Clone Trooper can fire an RPS-6 rocket launcher from the sidecar. This expansion also includes a unit card and an assortment of six upgrade cards, inviting you to outfit your speeder to fit your personal battle plan.

Droidekas Unit Expansion

Versatile and extremely destructive, Droidekas are a threat to even veteran squads of clone troopers and skilled Jedi Knights—and when B1 Battle Droids fail, droidekas are often sent to execute their primary function: annihilation of their targets. Rolling swiftly into battle, droidekas unleash their arm-mounted twin blasters, pouring out withering torrents of fire.

The Separatist Alliance’s own take on a ground vehicle, Droidekas are completely self-sufficient, quickly rolling into battle in wheel mode, then snapping into position and opening fire with their powerful Dual Twin Blaster Cannons. Equipped with their own shield generators, only the Republic’s most hardened troops can hold off a frontal assault from a determined pair of Droidekas for long.

The Droidekas Unit Expansion lets you support your droid forces with some of the most powerful combat droids in the galaxy. Four finely detailed, unpainted Droideka miniatures identical to those found in the Star Wars: Legion Clone Wars Core Set represent your Droidekas as they speed across the battlefield in wheel mode and unleash suppressive fire in their attack configuration. Meanwhile, a unit card fully outlines the Droidekas’ abilities, while three upgrade cards give you the freedom to modify them with comms systems.

Send in Reinforcements

As the Republic’s valiant clones and the Separatist’s dauntless droids battle for supremacy across the galaxy, the vehicles that enter the fight to support these troops could make all the difference. Make your plans, bolster your armies, and claim victory in the Clone Wars!

Speculation: Future Imperial Units?

With the forthcoming Clone Wars core set I’m intrigued with how the current factions of the Empire, and the Rebellion will interact with the two new factions. What’s interesting is that these factions shouldn’t have answers for each other because they never actually faced each other in a star war. But in terms of the game they will need to have answers as they will frequently be going head to head with the CIS and the Republic.

Currently the Imperial faction is built to represent their presence during Galactic Civil War and their struggle with the Rebel Alliance. The advent of the Republic faction gives FFG the opportunity to dive backwards on the timeline during the Dark Times era and release units that will be more suited in fighting lightsaber wielding Jedi.

I believe it’s a safe bet that we’ll see the release of the Inquisitors and Purge Troopers as Imperial counters to the Republic faction’s Jedi. Though it’s highly unlikely we’ll ever see Imperial Clone Troopers or a pre Cyborg Darth Vader, it would be interesting if they eventually made an Order 66 scenario.

What do you think? Do you agree that we’ll likely see Dark Times/Jedi Purge units hit the streets Q4 of this year or Q1 of next year? How do you think they’ll balance the Rebellion vs the Republic? Or do you think Luke and Sabine are enough to combatant full fledge Jedi? With that being said, I’m 100% sure we won’t see Jedi swarm as they’ll most likely be too expensive. So an Obi Wan, Anakin, and Ahsoka list might not be feasible.

Just some thoughts, let me know what you think in the comments.
